Australia Commits $1.24B To Green Aluminium Revolution

The Australian government has unveiled a landmark $1.24 billion investment to transform its aluminium industry, as part of a broader $2 billion decarbonisation initiative. At the heart of this program is the Green Aluminium Production Credit, designed to help smelters transition to renewable energy by 2036 through per-tonne incentives for clean production.
“This investment aligns with our ‘Future Made in Australia’ vision,” said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, emphasising how the initiative will strengthen domestic manufacturing while creating sustainable jobs in regional areas like Central Queensland and Northern Tasmania.
As the world’s sixth-largest aluminium producer, Australia aims to leverage its abundant renewable resources to revolutionize production methods. Industry Minister Ed Husic noted that this transformation will both reduce emissions and secure the industry’s future in an increasingly ESG-conscious market.
The initiative promises to safeguard thousands of regional jobs while positioning Australia as a global leader in low-carbon aluminium production. This strategic move responds to growing international demand for sustainable materials, reinforcing Australia’s commitment to industrial innovation and environmental stewardship.
